Monterey Park, Calif.— Day three of SCIAC Championships for swim and dive proved equally exciting and heart stopping as the previous three. The Panthers ended up with five podium finishes and two being crowned champions.
Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson and
Trent Calloway started off the evening winning the 100 yard men's and women's butterfly events. On the high tops sides, Tanizaki-Hudson recorded a time of 54.39 to win the A final. On the low tops side, Calloway recorded a time of 48.39 to win his A final.
Trailing just behind Calloway and placing second in the 100 yard men's butterfly final was teammate and senior star
Simon Jacobs. He posted a time of 49.34 coming in second in the A final.
At the end of the evening, both high top and low top 400 Medley Relay earned spots on the podium rounding out one of the most dominant days at SCIACs thus far. On the high tops side, Tanizaki-Hudson,
Miranda Thompson,
CJ Smith and
Avery Hall finished in third place with a time of 3:52.88. On the low tops side, Calloway, Jacobs,
Owen Ripley and
George Sholton finished in second place with a time of 3:21.34.
From the diving blocks to the diving boards,
Jake Randazzo placed second in the three meter diving finals with a score of 500.80 points, narrowly trailing the first place finisher by just over two points.
Additionally,
Ryan Musich finished sixth in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:08.92 as only a freshmen in the A relay. Thompson also finished sixth in the women's 100 yard breaststroke final going a 57.93.
In the B relays, the Panthers once again held their own. On the high tops side, freshman
Cora Buelow placed first in the B Relay of the 100 yard breaststroke recording a 57.96. Then,
Eleanor McElwee won her B cut final in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:39.85. On the lows tops side,
Max Polovinkin finished second in the B cut final for the 100 breaststroke going a 56.86.
Heading into the final day of the SCIAC Championships, both the high tops and low tops rank third on the men's and women's sides of the competition. SCIACs will wrap up on Saturday with the 200 yard backstroke, 100 yard freestyle, 200 yard breastroke and 200 yard butterfly.
