ORANGE, Calif. – Assistant swim coach Carly Miller was recently recognized as the Southern Pacific Masters Simming Open Water Contributor of the Year.
The well-deserved award for Chapman's assistant coach recognizes her contributions to the sport of open water swimming. She is an accomplished open water swimmer with at least 11 solo swims of 17 kilometers or more in the last seven years. She has traversed the Catalina Channel, the Santa Monica Bay and Lake Tahoe among many other lengthy solo swims.
Beyond her contributions as a competitor, she has led the efforts for Chapman swimmers to pursue open water swimming. Miller and a group of 12 Chapman swimmers embarked on two concurrent tandem relays across the 32.2 kilometer Catalina Channel in October. The Panthers also competed in the MPSF Open Water Championships in October.
Miller is the sixth person to win this award since 2016 – one of eight special awards from the SPMS that recognize individuals annually.
