Four athletes named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

ORANGE, Calif.— Four Chapman athletes have been named the SCIAC Athlete of the Week. From football, Tyler Pacheco and Andrew Buck earned Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week. From men's basketball, Cruz Billing earned Athlete of the Week. Lastly, from Swim & Dive, Max Polovinkin earned Athlete of the Week representing the low tops fom the men's team. 

In the SCIAC Championship game, Pacheco and Buck led the Panthers to the Conference title in a hard fought win 27-17 over Cal Lutheran. At quarterback, Pacheco accounted for three touchdowns for the game. He had two passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, 43 yards rushing and 176 yards passing in the come from behind victory. Pacheco's rushing touchdown came on a fourth-and-one play that put Chapman ahead by two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter. At linebacker, Buck was the game's leading tackler with nine on the day. He led a defense which gave up just 78 total yards in the second half. He also helped cause a fumble for a loss late in the third quarter which stopped the Kingsmen in their tracks. Cal Lutheran soon there after committed a fumble that led to a turnover. 

On the other end, senior point Cruz Billings opened up his final campaign leading Chapman men's basketball to a 2-1 record on the East Coast to start off the 2025-26 campaign. He averaged 18 points per game, shot 58 percent from the field, just under 5 percent from the behind the three-point-line and dished out four assists per game. He led the Panthers to victory over Yeshiva University and Baruch University. 

To round out the group, junior breaststroke aficionado Max Polovinkin dominated on Friday evening in the pouring rain against Redlands. He dropped just under nine seconds on his 200 breaststroke to go a 2:06.38 while adding a 100 breaststroke win in 58.01 and lead off a winning free relay. His split was 21.02. Polovinkin was not phased by the rain fall as he recorded three wins and helped the low tops on the men's side defeat the Bulldogs by almost 200 points, 236-51.
