Nguyen debuts with top-5 finish for women's golf

Kylie Nguyen finished her first tournament in a tie for third.

ORANGE, Calif. – Kylie Nguyen made her collegiate debut with a top-5 finish to lead the Chapman University women's golf team at the CA State Intercollegiate. The Panthers opened their season with an eighth place team finish at the two-round tournament.

Nguyen was just four-over for the tournament and opened her career with a one-over 73 in the first round. She made par on 15 of the 18 holes in her first collegiate round to place her third overall. She carded a 75 in the second round but maintained her spot in the top-5 in a three-way tie for third. She was just one shot out of second place and five behind the medalist.

Emily Cho's strong second round catapulted her up the leaderboard. She finished 15-over par over the two days and 27th overall. Nika Gholami was just two shots back of Cho and dropped five strokes off her day one score to finish the tournament.

Lillie Dayton and Payton Anderson rounded out the Panthers' scorecard. Dayton was 26-over and Anderson finished 30-over.

As a team, the Panthers finished eighth of 10 team. They were 35-over to start the tournament but rebounded on day two as they were 27-over, collectively.

Chapman hosts a Tri-Match at the Costa Mesa Golf and Country Clun on Sep. 21 as it continues its fall season.
