CHINO HILLS, Calif. –
Kaila Higgins finished in fifth place and led the Chapman University women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the SCIAC Championships. Higgins spent much of the tournament near the top of the leaderboard.
After parring every hole in the second round, Higgins put together another solid round to end the three-day championship. She birdied three holes but bogeyed four to finish the day one-over par. For the tournament, she finished three-over par with a 219 to lead the Panthers and secure the top-5 finish.
As a team, the Panthers put together their best round of the tournament on Tuesday. Chapman shot a 302 (+14) to finish firmly in fourth place with a 917 (+53). They were 25 strokes behind Redlands in third and 15 strokes in front of Cal Lutheran in fifth.
Rachel Truong placed 14th as she was 12-over par for the tournament.
Emily Cho's two-over par third round moved her up the leaderboard to 20th as she finished 19-over par.
Kaitlyn Vetica finished in 22nd – two strokes behind Cho – and
Nika Gholami finished 29th.
The Panthers season comes to a close with the SCIAC Championships although
Kaila Higgins is in position for a possible individual selection to the NCAA Championships. Those selections will be announced on May 13.
