Three Panthers selected to All-SCIAC baseball team

ORANGE, Calif. – A trio of seniors earned All-SCIAC recognition to conclude their careers for the Chapman University baseball team. Brandon Menzel earned First Team honors while Kai Osaka and AJ Anzai were each selected to the Second Team.

Menzel led the Panthers' pitching staff all year, starting a game in all eight SCIAC series. He compiled a 2.55 ERA in his eight SCIAC games with a 3-3 record. He tossed a pair of complete games, including one shutout. Opponents hits just .238 against him while he struck out 39 batters and walked just 13. He earned his first career postseason honor in his first year starting for the Panthers.

Osaka earned his first career postseason award after starting in all 28 SCIAC games this year. He split time between left field and behind the plate while continuing to be one of the Panthers offensive leaders. His 24 RBIs in SCIAC games were tied for most on the team. He also led the team with 12 extra bases hits. He hit 10 doubles, one triple and one home run while stealing a pair of bases. He hit .323 and drew 13 walks to lead the team with an .895 OPS.

Anzai earned his third career All-SCIAC award after hitting .326 in the SCIAC season and starting every game at first base. He hit a pair of home runs, three doubles and drove in 15 RBIs. He drew a career-high 17 walks for a .438 on base percentage and tied for the team lead with 22 runs scored.

The Panthers finished the 2024 season with a 22-18 overall record, finishing fifth in the SCIAC with a 13-11 record.
