Swim & dive splits double dual in SCIAC opener

WHITTIER, Calif. – The SCIAC dual season started on Saturday for the Chapman University swimming & diving teams with a double dual against CMS and Whittier. Trent Calloway and Kiana Tanizaki-Hudson led the Panthers in their first duals with a pair of first place finishes.

Chapman split the results for both the Low Tops and High Tops. Both Panthers teams fell to CMS but defeated Whittier in the season-opening dual.

Tanizaki-Hudson won both the 200 fly and 400 IM with the fastest times in the SCIAC this season. She swam a 2:07.33 in the 200 fly  to win the event by seven seconds and a 4:40.30 in the 400 IM to take the evnt by six seconds.

Calloway edged out his competition from CMS in the 200 free with the fastest time of the season in the SCIAC. His 1:43.37 was less than half a second in front of his competitors to take the event. He also captured first in the 100 fly with a 51.15.

Miranda Thompson brought in Chapman's other individual event win for the High Tops, winning the 100 fly with a 59.83 as the only one to finish under one minute. Cora Buelow also finished top-3 in both backstroke events and Megan Lei swam a pair of impressive 50 free events, taking third in the individual event but leading off the winning 200 free relay with a 25.33. The Panthers finished that relay in a time with CMS at 1::39.40

Max Polovinkin won the High Tops third event of the day when he took first in the 100 breast with a 58.61. He also came in second in the 200 breast.

Reid Omilian took first and third in his first SCIAC competition of the season. The three-time All-American placed third on the 3-meter but won the 1-meter board with a 291.65.

The Panthers head to Redlands on Saturday for another Saturday morning SCIAC dual.
