ORANGE, Calif. – In a match that went down to the wire, the Chapman University men's tennis team fell 5-4 to visiting Grinnell. Early morning rain changed the start time to 4 p.m. alongside the women's match.

A doubles match in a tiebreaker and a three-set match didn't go the Panthers' way and was just enough to hand Grinnell the upset win. In doubles, Caleb Wilkins and Mac Caldwell captured a point for Chapman with an 8-5 win but Grinnell won the next two points.

In the No. 3 doubles match, Jack Alexander and Kamron DeHart went back and forth with Karch Knoll and Lucas Willett of Grinnell before the Grinnel team pulled out the win in a tiebreaker for the 2-1 teach advantage.

Wilkins went on to win his No. 1 singles match in straight sets – 6-3, 7-5 – and Caldwell won a three-setter at No. 6. DeHart also took his No. 3 singles match 6-1, 6-4. After taking two matches in straight sets, the match came down to the two three-set  matches.

Caldwell was able to capture the win in his but Danny Marsh fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 to clinch the victory for Grinnell.

The Panthers get back into their SCIAC schedule with a trip to Redlands on Saturday.
