Women's soccer falls to No. 13 UW-La Crosse on late goal

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. – With the temperature rising, the Chapman University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to nationally-ranked UW-La Crosse on a late. The winning goal came with just three minutes left in the match.

Both goalkeepers shined under the blazing sun on Wilson Field. Maia Mills made four saves for Chapman and Sophia Anger made eight for the Eagles.

In the 87th minute, UW-La Crosse earned its 13th corner kick of the day. The curving corner was headed down and bounced up off the cross bar. As Mills tried to corral the loose ball, Chelsea Gale was able to deflect it into the net for the deciding goal.

The Panthers had their best opportunity near the end of the first half when Nikki Namdar created enough space to fire off a shot from 25 yards out. Her shot went over the keeper but found the cross bar and bounced away safely for the Eagles.

Both teams took 14 shots although UW-La Crosse took 12 of those in the second half. The Eagles also held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Chapman ends its season-opening homestand on Tuesday when the Panthers face McMurry at 4 p.m.
