ORANGE, Calif. — Sienna Gomez's First Team selection led a trio of players from the Chapman University women's soccer team to earn All-SCIAC honors. Gomez was joined by Second Team selections Quinn Busby and Grace Vasquez.
All three Panthers earned their first career postseason honors. Busby was one of just two first-years to earn a spot on either of the All-SCIAC teams.
The First Team honor for Gomez comes after a solid season for the junior goalkeeper, who started in all 12 SCIAC matches. She made 46 saves and allowed just 10 goals in those matches for a 0.96 goals against average. She ranked fourth in the SCIAC in GAA, saves and save percentage while helping the Panthers to a second SCIAC Tournament berth. With Gomez in goal, the Panthers shutout half of their conference opponents. Gomez played all 90 minutes in four of those shutouts and split time in goal in two of them.
The Panthers' next two selections came from two defensive minded field players in Busby and Vasquez. Busby led all field players for Chapman with 786 minutes played in the midfield. The holding midfielder also assisted on a goal in the win at Caltech.
While Vasquez helped a stingy Panthers' back line, she also led the Panthers offensively with six points in 12 conference matches. She scored twice and assisted on two more during the season. Her left-footed corners resulted in an Olympico goal against La Verne and an assist against Redlands.
Chapman advanced to the SCIAC semifinals on penalty kicks after playing Occidental to a 0-0 draw for the second time this season and will face top seeded Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m. tonight.
