ORANGE, Calif. — It's a rematch from 2025. With Occidental's upset of CMS on Saturday, the Chapman University women's soccer team will once again travel to Occidental for the SCIAC Tournament First Round game. Get ready for the 7 p.m. kickoff with a few things to know before tonight's match.
SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE
The Tigers and Panthers met once this season and played to a 0-0 draw in Eagle Rock. That was one of two 0-0 results for the Panthers this year and was the only scoreless result for Oxy.
MORE OFTEN THAN NOT
Of Chapman's 16 matches this year, just two resulted in both sides putting the ball in the net. Both of those instances came on the road with the Panthers coming back in the final minutes to defeat CMS 2-1 and falling to Redlands 3-1. Five Chapman wins came via the shutout; however, the Panthers were shutout nine times. On the other side, Occidental was shutout seven times but posted six shutouts with at least one side being shutout in 12 of the 17 games.
LOWEST SCORING
The Panthers had the least number of combined goals scored in the 12-match SCIAC season this year. Scoring certainly came at a premium as Chapman scored 14 times in 12 matches and conceded just 13. The 27 goals scored in the Panthers' matches is the least among all SCIAC teams. Oxy's matches didn't light up the scoreboard much more with the Tigers scoring 17 and conceding 16 goals – tied for the third-least in the conference.
BYE REVERSAL
When these two teams met in last year's SCIAC First Round, the Tigers were coming off a bye on the Saturday before the Monday matchup. This time, it's Chapman coming off the bye on the final day of the regular season.
CENTURY MARK FOR GOMEZ
Sienna Gomez's next save will be the 100th of her career. She is having a career year in her first year as the starter. She has compiled 64 saves with a 1.01 goals against average. She has saved over 82 percent of shot in the 12 SCIAC matches year, ranking fourth in the conference.
