ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Cal Lutheran to start the 2021 SCIAC series. The Panthers dominated the match to set the tone for the best-of-5 series.
The sweep started with the Panthers taking all three doubles matches. Junior Tatum Phillips and freshman Olivia Desso took the No. 1 match 8-5 with sophomore duo Aliya Allyn and Liza Antonova winning the No. 2 match by the same score. Seniors Madison Ross and Vasilisa Trofimova won 8-4 to complete the sweep.
Phillips breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 1 singles match while Antanoza and Desso each won their respective singles matches 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the team win. Trofimova won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 match. In the middle of the lineup, Ross and Allyn were both pushed into a third set but came away with the win to finish off a clean team sweep.
The two teams meet again on April 9 at Cal Lutheran.
