ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 victory over visiting Cal Lutheran in its SCIAC opener on Sunday. The Panthers (2-1, 1-0) won five of the six singles matches to clinch the win.

Chapman started the match with a 2-1 advantage after winning a pair of doubles matches and then quickly clinched in singles. Sophomore Liza Antonova and freshman Aliya Allyn stayed undefeated with an 8-5 win on the No. 2 court. Juniors Madison Ross and Vasilisa Trofimova also stayed unbeaten with an 8-3 win at No. 3.

Allyn and Trofimova both won their singles matches in straight sets – Allyna winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 and Trofimova winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5. Antonova fell in straight sets at No. 2.

With the Panthers up 4-2, the rest of the singles matches headed to a third set. Ross took the win at No. 3 with a score of 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 and sophomore Tatum Phillips scored the 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 win at No. 1 to clinch  the match in favor of the Panthers.

The No. 6 court also went to a third set but played a super tiebreak in the third set with junior Anna Kaplan winning 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).

The Panthers are off until the month of March but play their next nine non-conference matches at home throughout the month. First up, Christopher Newport visits on Mar. 1 at 5 p.m.
