ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman women's tennis team fell 7-2 to the nationally-ranked Middlebury College Panthers earlier this afternoon. Sophomore Anna Kaplan tallied her fourth singles victory of the season as she beat her opponent 6-1, 6-4 on the No. 6 court.

Middlebury, who has advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the last two consecutive years, took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles courts. Sophomores Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross fell 2-8 on the No. 1 doubles court while Kaplan and fellow sophomore Naomi Lee fell 0-8 on the No. 2 court. Senior Nicole Fouts and sophomore Vasilisa Trofimova put up three points against their opponents on the third court but fell 3-8.

Ogranovich faced off against the Panthers' number one singles player but fell 1-6, 3-6 after putting up a fight in the second set. Ross took the No. 2 court, falling 1-6, 0-6 to her opponent while Trofimova fell 1-6, 2-6 on the No. 3 court. Sophomore Delara Fotovatjah entered the match on the No. 4 court, falling 1-6, 0-6. Fouts earned Chapman's second point of the afternoon, taking her opponent on the No. 5 court to the 10-point tiebreaker. The veteran dropped the second set but rallied to win 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).

The Panthers return to Lastinger Tennis Center to host Colby College on Friday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
