Women's tennis falls to Bates

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team fell 7-2 to visiting Bates on Tuesday. The Panthers (1-1) dropped two tiebreakers in doubles to start the match and weren't able to swing the score back in their favor.

The match started in heartbreaking fashion for the Panthers. The No. 2 team from Bates took a quick 8-0 win at No. 2 but the other two matches went back and forth. Both ended up tied at 7-7 and prompting a tiebreaker scenario. Freshman Delara Fotovatjah and Alisa Ogranovich fell 7-2 in their tiebreaker at No. 3. Moments later, junior Nicole Fouts and freshman Vasilisa Trofimova dropped a seesaw battle 9-7 in the tiebreaker as Bates took a 3-0 lead.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets and the Panthers were able to claim two wins but unable to close the early gap. Fouts made quick work on court No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Organovich won 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 2 as well.

Bates came out on top of the other four matches to seal the win.

Chapman is back at home on Friday to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 4 p.m. in its first SCIAC match of the season.
