Women's tennis wraps busy two weeks with a shutout

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team wrapped up a busy two-week stretch that included seven home matches in 14 days with a 9-0 shutout win over visiting Lewis & Clark College on Saturday evening at the Chapman Tennis Courts. The win gave the Panthers an above-.500 home stand, going 4-3 during the two weeks and climbing into the top-30 in NCAA Division III.

Chapman (7-5) earned its third shutout of the season and has now won four of its past six matches heading back into conference play on Friday with a road match at No. 5-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

The Panthers were led by No. 1 singles sophomore Andrea Hammer who won in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to improve to 5-7 in dual matches this spring.

Junior Sophia Duong, playing on the No. 2 court for just the second time this season, ran her personal singles winning streak to six and improved to 11-1 in dual matches this year with a 6-3, 6-1 win over her Lewis & Clark counterpart. Junior Kelley Klebenow also won her fourth consecutive match from the No. 5 position in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) for Chapman.

Hammer and freshman partner Rachel Fox – the West Region's No. 15-ranked duo – improved to 11-1 this spring with their seventh straight win 8-2. Duong and Klebenow remained unbeaten together this spring with an 8-1 win on the No. 3 court to run their record to 4-0.
