Chapman Football Pregame Notes (11/9/13)

ORANGE, Calif. - Pregame notes for the football game between Chapman University (6-1, 4-1 SCIAC) hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2-6, 1-5 SCIAC) on Saturday night are now available. Kickoff is schedule for 7 p.m. at Ernie Chapman Stadium.

  • At 6-1, Chapman is one win away from equaling its highest win total in 17 years (7-2 in 1996) and just two wins from the school record for wins (8-1 in 1995).
  • For the first time in school history, the Panthers compiled a perfect road record this season, going 4-0 away from Orange. Their 45-7 win at La Verne on Saturday was their fourth straight on the road.
  • The Panthers scored 45 points last week and their scoring average went down. The offense fell to No. 8 in Division III with a 46.6 ppg average. Linfield (Ore.) leads the nation with a 55.4 mark.
  • Defensively, the Panthers held their opponents to a touchdown or less for the fifth time since 2006 (under head coach Bob Owens). The last time was in a 24-7 homecoming win over Pomona-Pitzer last season.
  • Chapman will play its final two regular season games at Ernie Chapman Stadium where, despite having its six-game home winning streak snapped by Redlands, the Panthers boast a 12-3 record (.800 pct.) over the past three-plus seasons.
  • The Panthers' 623 yards of offense last week was their first time over 600 yards this season - something they did twice last year. The Chapman record for most yards in a game is 644, set in 1996 vs. Redlands.
  • Junior QB Michael Lahey was 23 of 32 for 364 of those yards, marking the second-highest passing yard total for a Chapman QB ever. Only Eric Marty in 2006 passed for more yardage in a game (386 vs. Pacific Lutheran).
  • Chapman remains the nation's only team (all NCAA divisions) to be perfect in red zone opportunities, going 35-for-35 this season (30 TDs, five FGs).
  • The Panthers are 7-2 all-time against Claremont and have never lost to the Stags at home.
