Women's lacrosse picks up SCIAC win with dominant fourth quarter

The Panthers ended the game on a 9-1 run.

ORANGE, Calif. – A runaway fourth quarter led the Chapman University women's lacrosse team to a 15-7 victory over visiting Occidental. Madi Escobar scored a hat trick in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers pull away.

Chapman came away with a big SCIAC win after a 7-1 advantage in the fourth quarter. Occidental tied the game at 6-6 with six minutes left in the third but managed to score just once more as Chapman ended the match on a 9-1 run.

Escobar led the team with four goals and an assist to go along with nine draw controls while Ada Carr and Zoey Stephens each added a hat trick and an assist. Tade Scheid scored two goals with two assists.

The Panthers caused 13 turnovers and picked up 20 ground balls. They also had a 15-8 advantage in turnovers.

Camila Gabrian and Madelyn Kuhnlein split time in goal although Oxy managed just 12 total shots in the game to Chapman's 34. Gabrian made three saves in the first half while Kuhnlein made a save and picked up her first win of the season.

Chapman hosts its first non-conference match on Wednesday when it takes on Emerson at 4 p.m.
