ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman women's basketball junior stars
Layla Woods and
Maile Nakaji have been named to the All-SCIAC Second Team. This is Woods' second appearance on the team and Nakaji's first time making it. The two-headed juggernaut helped lead Chapman to their second straight year making the SCIAC Tournament.
Nakaji is a three-year team starter who had a career-year in 2025-26, averaging career-highs with 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.8 steals in just over 30 minutes of play a game. The career year propelled Nakaji within the conference as well. She ranked seventh overall in scoring, first in three-point attempts at 2.5 per game, first in steals at 2.9 per game and top 15 in minutes played. Nakaji also had four games of scoring at least 22 points throughout the season, three of which were in three consecutive conference games. She also recorded at least five steals in five games this season, which included recording a career-high six steals in two different games in conference play. The junior guard rounded out her season earning SCIAC Athlete of the Week the final week of the season for the defensive side of the ball.
Woods is another three-year starter who averaged 14 points and 7.4 rebounds per game to go along with shooting a blistering 45.5 percent from the field. She ranked sixth in the SCIAC in both points and rebounds per game. The junior also ranked second in the conference in field goal percentage. She makes her return to the second team for the second consecutive season, along with posting career #s in minutes per game and free throw percentage. Woods was also named SCIAC Athlete of the Week twice during the season.
