ORANGE, Calif. —
Maile Nakaji from women's basketball,
Emily Tome from softball and
Cruz Billings from men's basketball have been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week.
From SCIAC playoffs bound men's basketball, Billing was named Offensive Player of the Week. He ended up neting 19 points against Occidental College and 21 points at Caltech. He also led Chapman to earning the three seed in the upcoming SCIAC postseason. The Panthers earned a first round bye as the result of those last two victories.
From SCIAC postseason bound women's basketball,
Maile Nakaji was named the Defensive Player of the Week. She helped the Panthers clinch the five spot in the SCIAC Tournament with two massive road wins over Caltech and Occidental College. Against Occidental in specific, Nakaji had five steals and helped Chapman hold Occidental to just 25 percent shooting from the field in the first quarter.
Rounding out the group,
Emily Tome, the freshman from softball also earned her first athlete of the week honors. She ended up helping the Panthers sweep Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as she had one run, two hits and one RBI in the first game of the home double header Saturday, then she had a run and a hit in the second game.
