ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman women's basketball came roaring back, cutting a 20 point lead to as little as nine points in the fourth quarter against Redlands Wednesday evening. Despite best efforts, the Panthers struggled from behind-the-arc and eventually fell to the Bulldogs 77-63.
Junior guards
Maile Nakaji and
Makena Nitao remain two of the most consistent guards in the SCIAC in 2026. The two-headed monster in the back court had a combined 45 of their team's total points Wednesday evening against Redlands. The two played more than 30 minutes of the 40 minute long game.
Chapman proved resilient causing 18 turnovers on Redlands, and scoring 15 points off those turnovers. They added another 23 points off the bench. The Panthers also went into the second half trailing by just seven points.
Kira Watanabe added eight points and
Layla Woods added another eight rebounds.
Despite best efforts, Redlands guard Leila Hosn had 20 points along with 10 free throw attempts and forward AJ Wick had 15 points.
Chapman will look to get back on track Saturday, Jan. 31 as they gear up to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at the Hutton Sports Center.
