Nakaji's career-night started with two early baskets that led Chapman to a 7-0 lead to start the game. She went on to score 11 of Chapman's 26 points in the first half despite running into foul trouble in the second quarter.
She drained five three-pointers in the game, including a couple late ones that cut into the lead late in the game. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had five steals. Layla Woods added 16 points while Kira Watanabe had 11 points and four assists.
After Chapman scored the first seven points of the game, the Athenas responded with a seven-point run of their own. A back-and-forth second quarter ended with CMS scoring the last 13 points of the quarter to turn a one-point deficit into a 12-point halftime lead.
The Athenas led by double digits the rest of the way as Chapman tried to fight back late.
The Panthers head out on the road for both games next week, taking on Whittier on Wednesday and Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
