Box Score ORANGE, Calif.— After trailing by as many as six goals, Chapman women's water polo came roaring back against Santa Clara to fall by just one goal 14-13. The Panthers came out hot in teh second half.
Attacker
Alyssa Fricker led the way with eight goals— seven of which came in the second half. Fellow attacker,
Kendall Pappan fueled the offense with four assists and five earned ejections. The sophomore also netted three goals of her own. Fricker, the programs all-time leading scorer, also currently leads the SCIAC and NCAA in scoring.
The Panthers fell behind early not scoring at all in the first period as Santa Clara stormed ahead 3-0. The Broncos carried that momentum into the second period eventually leading by as many as six goals. In the second half, Chapman came roaring back. Along with Fricker and Pappan,
Nina Bastick and
Riley Eaves also netted one goal each. Fricker had two separate plays where she netted goals off a blind shot scoring the ball with her head turned away from the net.
Pappan and Fricker became a dynamic duo fueling the offense, essentially exchanging assists and goals between possessions in the third period. During the fourth, Santa Clara began panicking offensively, calling back-to-back timeouts as their once big lead dwindled to just two goals with two minutes left.
The Panthers managed to close the lead to just one goal, but it was too little, too late. Chapman did make a statement in their final non-conference regular season game.
The Panthers will wrap up the regular season and celebrate senior day on Sat. April 19, 2025 against Cal Tech at the Allred Olympic Pool.
