ORANGE, Calif.— Chapman Men's Basketball fell Saturday evening against Pomona-Pitzer 79-63. The Panthers kept the game close in the first half tying the at 32 all with 18 minutes to play in the second half. Pomona-Pitzer then pulled away from the Panthers proving too much to handle down the stretch.
Despite the loss, the Panthers two-headed monster of
Jake Heberle (21) and
Blakeley Stoughton (16) combined for 37 points on the day. Stoughton is quickly approaching 1,000 career points as well in his time as a Panther. He currently sits at 957 points. Heberle also added nine rebounds.
Throughout the first half, the Panthers kept it close with the game tied, as they held Pomona-Pitzer to just 34.3 percent shooting. That stiff defensive effort allowed Chapman to remain close before the Sagehens pulled away. Even as the scored deficit increased Chapman continued applying full court defensive pressure while also hustling after every rebound and loose ball. A glimmer of hope for a team that still has a lot left in the tank.
Chapman will continue conference play back home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. against Occidental College at the Hutton Sports Center.
