ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman men's basketball competed hard against Puget Sound in their official home opener Wednesday evening. A game which saw 13 lead changes, the biggest game lead by single digits and a tie at the end of regulation saw Puget Sound narrowly squeak away with a 72-66 win over the Panthers.
Jake Heberle led the way for Chapman wth a season high 24 points to go along with six rebounds. The University of Washington tranfers and first year team member
Dylan Mansour followed up with 10 points of his while the freshman
Luke Farrington added in another nine points. Junior
Alex Kim was the game's glue guy who recorded six massive rebounds which gave Chapman back momentum when they needed it the most.
Chapman made it to the charity stripe 17 times and had 25 bench points for the game. The Panthers also held the lead within the last sixty seconds of the second half. Junior forward
Scott Schulz locked down defensively, recording a game high three steals to contribute to the 10 Chapman had in total. The Panthers were at a height disadvantage and gave up 40 points in the paint while also giving up 18 off turnovers.
The men's program will look to get back on track as they open up SCIAC play against Redlands on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
