ORANGE, Calif. —
Jake Heberle made history Wednesday evening earning his 1000th career point in basketball career with the Chapman Panthers. Heberle led Chapman with four three-pointers on the day and 20 points while going 6/6 from the free throw line. Despite the strong performance, the Panthers fell 80-62 to Redlands at home.
The Panthers showed flashes of a bright future, despite the tougher loss. Blakely Stoughton had 14 points of his own with five rebounds and two steals.
Murphy Caffo added in another seven rebounds of his own while freshman forward
Joe Keegan had a new career-high of five points at the end of the second half.
For a team mostly top heavy with upperclassmen in the starting lineup, Chapman's freshman class showed glimpses of what will likely be a bright future for the program. With the team down late, freshman class remained competitive and locked in, applying full court pressure, hustling after long rebounds and knocking down long threes.
The Panthers showed a level of grit, despite being down as much as 28 points, to remain like flies on the wall in the game. The second half proved to be a bright spot as the team shot 46.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from the free throw line. In the fold of it all, Heberle also amassed the 1,000 career point mark off two free throws late in the second half.
The Panthers will look to bounce back from this one as they return home on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to face off against La Verne at 7:00 P.M.
