ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team ended the regular season with a 22-5 loss to visiting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday. The Panthers fell to 9-5 on the season and end the conference season with a 7-5 record in SCIAC contests.
The Panthers and Athenas had both locked up their SCIAC Tournament seeds before today's match and will meet again in just four days in the SCIAC semifinal.
Chapman jumped out to an early lead but was shut out in the second half as CMS ran away with the victory. After Chapman jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first eight minutes of the match, CMS answered with a six-goal run and never trailed again.
Josie Morrissey scored 58 seconds into the match and went on to score a first quarter hat trick. She ended the match with four goals to lead Chapman. Annika Carlson scored twice and assisted on two more goals.
Anna Hereu made 14 saves – nine of which came in the first half. With the 14 saves, she became just the second player in program history to eclipse 400 saves. She is 14 saves shy of breaking the all-time program record.
Chapman and CMS will meet again on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Claremont, Calif. for the semifinal round of the SCIAC Tournament. The other semifinal will be between top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer and fourth-seeded Occidental.
