ORANGE, Calif. — Women's water polo dropped its final home regular season game of the year, 7-6, to the Cal Lutheran Regals on Wednesday, April 17.
Both defenses were on fire, with the Panthers collecting 12 steals and Cal Lutheran forcing 18 turnovers. Chapman's offense found its rhythm late in the third quarter and into the fourth, scoring four unanswered goals in the span to take a 6-4 lead with just over six minutes remaining.Â
Alyssa Fricker rattled off three of the four goals in that span – she had five goals on the night, and Annika Liou added the other. Fricker improved her season total to 92. That mark is good enough for third all-time in program history.
Cal Lutheran went on a 3-0 run, however, to close out the contest. Chapman's Kendall Pappan earned a costly third exclusion with 4:03 left, taking away the Panthers' second-leading goal scorer.Â
Women's water polo's regular season comes to an end with a historic 14-11 finish and 8-4 SCIAC record, both the best marks since the team joined the SCIAC in the 2013 season. The Panthers' season will continue with a SCIAC tournament game against the No. 2 seeded Claremont-M-S Athenas on the road in Claremont on April 26. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
