ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 18-12 to visiting CMS as the Athenas pulled away in the second half. The Panthers fell to 1-1 in the young SCIAC season and 5-8 overall.
Alyssa Fricker scored six goals to lead the Panthers while Jamie Chin had five assists. Fricker and Chin also came away with three steals each.
The Panther went back and forth with Division III's second-ranked team throughout the first half. The teams were tied at the end of the first and the Panthers pulled ahead in the second as Fricker scored after an early ejection on CMS. Riley Eaves scored on the Panthers next possession to make it 5-3 but the Athenas scored the next four goals of the game to flip the deficit into a two-goal lead.
The Athenas pulled away with 11 more goals scored in the second half while the Panthers continued to score three in each quarter.
The Panthers are back in action at 7 p.m. tonight against Macalester.
