ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman women's water polo continued its dominance as the Panthers notched their fifth win in a row, a 10-8 victory over Caltech.
Chapman came out firing, leading the Beavers 4-1 at the six-minute mark in the fourth. Riley Eaves tacked on the fourth goal, the first of her three in the game, but Caltech clawed its way back to trail one at the end of the frame.
The Beavers and Panthers traded goals through the second quarter as Chapman led 7-6 going into halftime. The Panthers broke it open, however, in the third as Alyssa Fricker got going, sending home three of her five goals in the second half. The Panthers were also helped by Demi Ovalle, who scored a career-high three goals – Ovalle, Eaves, and Fricker combined for 11 of Chapman's 15 scores.
At the end of the third quarter, a two-thirds pool heave from Kendall Pappan squeaked just past the outstretched hand of the Caltech keeper to give Chapman a 13-8 lead heading into the fourth.
The Panthers hung on to pick up another win, improving to 10-8 on the season and 5-1 in SCIAC play. They return to Allred Pool on Friday, March 29, for a non-conference matchup with UC Merced at 7 p.m.
