ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's tennis team battled but fell to No. 4 Case Western Reserve 6-3 on Wednesday. The Panthers fell to 1-4 but have only faced ranked teams in their five matches this year.
The Panthers took the edge on doubles, winning two of the three matches to grab a 2-1 edge.
Caleb Wilkins and
Ian Jordan cruised to an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles and Wilkins went on to a convincing 6-2, 6-1 singles victory to push the Panthers ahead 3-2.
Straight set wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 put CWRU within a point of clinching the team victory but Matt Dewey battled back to force a third set on No. 5 while
Aram Izmirian also played in a third set on No. 3.
Ultimately, CWRU was able to take both matches to clinch the win.
The Panthers are back in action on Friday to take on Colorado College at 5 p.m.
