ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 14-1 to Division I Iona in a midweek match at Allred Pool. The Panthers fall 3-4 with the loss.
Alyssa Fricker scored Chapman's only goal on a 5-meter shot in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers came out strong on the defensive end and trailed just 1-0 after the first quarter. Both offenses struggled to get into a rhythm as the defenses continually deflected and stole passes if they weren't holding strong deep into the shot clock.
In the second quarter Iona was able to find an offensive groove while Chapman continued to struggle on the offensive end. The Gaels found four goals in the second and pulled away with eight third.
The Panthers play four games at home this weekend as they host a site of the Claremont Convergence for the first time. In total, 15 games will be played at Allred Pool, beginning at 10:15am on Friday.
