Orange, Calif.— Chapman (1-2) showed just what they are, as they fought back Friday night in a close loss 58-55 at home to the University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) (1-2). After trailing by 14 points at halftime, and only putting up nine in the first quarter alone, the Panthers kicked a massive comeback into gear.
Sophomore forward
Shanna Brown led the roaring second half comeback with 18 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. The Panthers outscored Dallas 35-24 and held the Comets to just six third quarter points.
The Panthers pressured. Pressured the ball, the out of bounds, the UT Dallas guards, the once 'easy layups', that the Comets began missing. They wrecked havoc on UT Dallas, causing starting point guard Amanda Crownshield to commit five turnovers and just one assist.
Chapman forward
Layla Woods held her own against a longer taller UT Dallas front court. She poured in 15 points and five rebounds in just 17 minutes of game play.
The Panthers also knocked down 15/16 free throws, outscoring their opponent who went to the line 25 times total. Credit those free throws, and intense defense, the Panthers eventually took the lead with under two minutes to play.
That lead slipped away, with Texas-Dallas clinching the victory but if the game proved anything, it is that this team will continue to fight until that clock hits zero.
Chapman be back against Linfield University (1-0) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:00 p.m. at home.
