Orange, Calif.— Chapman women's basketball (1-3) narrowly lost at home to Linfield (2-0) 70-65 Saturday evening. The Panthers kept the score close throughout the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats proved just too much to handle.
Linfield senior forward Gillyan Landis dominated, leading the game with 21 points and six rebounds. Three other Wildcat players also scored in double digits including: Eve Burke (14), Amelia Solt (15) and Allison Mead (11).
Chapman's
Shanna Brown (27) and
Layla Woods (13) accounted for 40 of Chapman's total points. Brown also knocked down four 3-pointers, including one that cut Linfield's lead to just two points late in the game with just under 30 seconds to play. Despite best efforts, the Wildcats knocked down clutch free throws forcing the game out of reach.
The Panthers also forced the Wildcats to commit 23 turnovers with strong ball pressure that led to Chapman's 10 steals and 20 points off turnovers.
Chapman closed out the weekend 0-2 losing by an average of just four point. The Panthers will take the next two weeks to regroup, before heading on the road to play UC Santa Cruz in the UCSC Classic on Nov. 30 at 3:30 p.m.
