ORANGE, Calif. – Reid Leidlein headed in the game-winner as the Chapman University men's soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory over visiting La Verne on Wednesday. Leidlein scored for the second match in a row and the third time this season.
The Panthers won their second consecutive match after coming off a seven-match slide. Leidlein's goal in the 75th minute felt like a long time coming in a match that was largely in favor of the Panthers. A mistimed jump from the keeper off Garret Lindfelt's free kick left an open net for Leidlein to score his third goal.
The Panthers had not capitalized on an empty net earlier in the contest and Hector Duenas-Pena saved a penalty kick in the first half. In total, Chapman fired off 20 shots but put eight on goal. Duenas-Pena turned away seven to keep the Panthers off the board for the first 74 minutes.
Alex Glynn made four saves for Chapman in his second consecutive shutout and Chapman limited La Verne to just eight shots in total.
The Panthers improved to 3-6 on the year and 2-3 in the SCIAC and now break from the SCIAC schedule to host UC Santa Cruz on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
