ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's soccer team played UC Santa Cruz to a 2-2 draw in a Saturday non-conference contest. Both teams led for a portion of the match but neither were able to hold on.
It was UC Santa Cruz whole took the initial lead 25 and a half minutes in on a combination of passes that led Joaquin Greenberg behind the Panthers' back line for a finish past the keeper.
The Panthers equalized when Diego Perez headed in Conner Kilde's free kick on the back post in the 39th minute. Evan White gave Chapman the lead in the 66th minute after Ben Fraser played Dylan Paine wide and Paine knocked it back in the box for White to finish.
UCSC trailed for the next 10 minutes but were also able to find an equalizer. A bouncing ball in the box failed to be cleared and Soren Groessl knocked it into the netting to make it 2-2.
The Slugs outshot Chapman 11-6 in the match, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Panthers head to Occidental next Wednesday before returning home for a 7 p.m. match against Whittier next Saturday.
