ORANGE, Calif. – A late equalizer gave the Chapman University men's soccer team its second draw of the week – a 1-1 result against Whittier College. Jonah Friang's fourth goal of the season brought the Panthers even.
Friang's goal came in the 72nd minute as the Panthers were frantically pushing forward to overcome an early deficit. A pass across from Evan Crownfield to Friang led to a shot from distance. After a bounce in the box, the ball snuck through the keeper's hands and into the netting to tie the match at 1-1.
Rowan Slater had put the Poets on top early in the first half when he curved a goal into the side netting.
Chapman put seven shots on goal but were turned away six times but Whittier's Alex Brown. Alex Glynn made two saves as the Panthers limited the Poets to just six shots. Jackson Busby kept the Panthers from going down multiple goals when he threw his body in front of a shot heading into the goal and had bounce off his chest and out from a corner kick.
The Panthers are now 3-6-4 overall and 2-3-2 in the SCIAC season. They return to Wilson Field on Wednesday to take on Caltech at 4 p.m.
