ORANGE, Calif. – A pair of first half goals held up in a 2-1 win over visiting Caltech on Wednesday. The Panthers picked up a much-needed three points with the win to improv to 3-3-2 in the SCIAC and jump into fifth place.
Leo Wells scored his third goal of the season and Diego Perez scored his second to give the Panthers a 2-0 halftime lead. Alex Glynn made six saves for the Panthers in the win.
In the 19th minute, the Panthers worked the ball through the Caltech defense and Wells buried the opportunity in the box for the initial lead. In the 32nd minute, a shot from Carter Kappes went off a defender but to the waiting feet of Perez, who nudged it into the open goal for a 2-0 lead.
The Beavers were able to press forward early in the second and found the back of the net in the first three minutes of the second half. However, the Panthers thwarted every later opportunity to secure the win. Chapman fired off 11 shots in the second half but Caltech's Ethan Hamel made five of his six saves in the final 45 minutes to keep his team in the game.
The Panthers will look to keep hold of fifth place when they take on Whittier on Saturday night to start a three-match road trip.
