Women's basketball knocks down Regals, 82-64

ORANGE, Calif. — Women's basketball picked up another huge SCIAC victory, this time a convincing 82-64 win over the top-dog Cal Lutheran Regals on Saturday, Jan. 27.

Freshman Maile Nakaji and Shanna Brown continue their stellar play, scoring 20 points each. Nakaji did it on 80% shooting, 4-of-5, from three-point land – including another buzzer-beater to end the third quarter. while Brown found her way to the line 12 times to hit ten free throws. Brown added 13 boards for her first-career double-double.

The Panthers got contributions from up and down the rotation, with four players in double-figures. Makena Nitao notched 15 points, and Zoe Zurasky finished with 11. Nitao improves her season average to 11.5 points per game.

Chapman trailed 40-38 with under five to go in the third when they turned on the jets, closing the frame with a 16-4 run.

The Panthers didn't look back from that point forward, leading by 19 with three minutes to go in the fourth before closing out the game with the 18-point victory.

Chapman knocked off two of the SCIAC's top teams in Occidental and Cal Lutheran in back-to-back games. They will look to pick up a third-straight win on Wednesday, Jan. 31, this time against Caltech in the Hutton Center at 7 p.m.
