ORANGE, Calif. – A pair of penalty kicks proved too much to overcome as the Chapman University men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Redlands in its SCIAC-opener on Wednesday. Marco Rodriguez scored his first career goal for Chapman.
The Panthers surrendered a PK in each half, which two different Redlands players converted, to fall into a 2-0 deficit late in the second half. With the Panthers pressing forward, Rodriguez headed in a corner kick from Ryan Bridge in the 77th minute.
The goal gave new life to the Panther attack as Chapman continued to press forward and create more goal scoring opportunities. A couple of shots fell off-target but Redlands' Brady Bachman was able to come away with a couple of late saves as well to keep the Bulldogs out in front.
Redlands also had a late opportunity to seal the win but the shot missed wide of the left post. Alex Glynn saved both shots he faced in the run of the game and Bachman made three saves. Both teams fired off eight shots in total.
Chapman will look to rebound against CMS on Saturday at 11 a.m.
