Baseball drops rubber match to Pacific

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif — Baseball dropped the rubber match of its three-game set to the Pacific University (Ore.) Boxers on Sunday, Feb. 12 9-3 at Hart Park.

The long ball was the key for the Boxers as they sent three bombs over the wall on top of fourteen other hits to out match the Panthers.

Chapman was only able to scrape across four hits and hitters were off-balance all game, striking out 11 times in the process.

The Panthers were in the game at one point in the middle innings. After going down 5-0 in the third, runners were on second and third for Trent Turquand. He bounced a grounder out to short, which would have been a tough play to begin with, but the shortstop whiffed the slow roller allowing Chapman to plate two runs and grab a little momentum.

That was it, however, as the Boxers continued to find holes and barrels offensively.

Max Banks started on the bump allowing five runs in three innings striking out five.

The Panthers will look to bounce back next weekend as they take on Westcliff before a SCIAC series against Claremont-M-S followed by a tough non-conference slate in March.
