ORANGE, Calif. — A wild back-and-forth affair with an Aidan Sherfey buzzer-beating three to send it into overtime ended with a 69-65 loss to the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Panthers trailed 48-40 with 8:58 to go in the fourth, but an 8-0 Chapman run – spearheaded by 10 second-half points from Layla Woods – put the Panthers right back into the ball game. The squads traded buckets down the stretch. With seven seconds to, Chapman called a timeout, advancing the ball into the front court down 57-54. Sherfy inbounded the ball to Maile Nakaji who found Sherfy to tie the game.
In overtime, the Bulldogs opened with a three and held the lead from there. Chapman would get within one, 60-59, but couldn't find the lead in the final period.
Chapman finished with even scoring across the board, Woods leading with 12, and Makena Nitao with 10. The duo were the only Panthers in double-digits.
The Panthers return to the floor in Hutton after finals week to face Benedictine (Ill.) on Dec. 19, starting a three-day three-game homestand.
