ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University men's basketball team cruised past visiting Stanton with an 88-59 win to kick off a stretch of three games in four days. McKelary Robertson led the Panthers with a 20-point effort as Chapman improved to 5-2 on the season.
The Panthers led from start to finish as Blakeley Stoughton scored the first basket of the game 24 seconds in to give Chapman the initial lead. The Panthers held the lead for the rest of the game as Jake Heberle scored one minute later and the Panthers opened the game on a 20-6 over the first eight minutes.
The lead reached as much as 33 points in the second half as the Panthers continued to run away from the Fighting Elks. Chapman shot 51.9 percent on the game, including 12-of-23 shooting from three-point range. The Elks had 17 turnovers while shooting 45.5 percent in the game and making just a trio of three-pointers.
Robertson's 20 points led the Panthers but Stoughton scored 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, making all four of two-point attempts and shooting 3-for-5 from three-point range. Heberle scored 15 points and Cruz Billings had six assists.
The Panthers return to the court tomorrow to take on West Coast Baptist at 7 p.m.
