Make it eight, water polo downs Concordia to extend win streak

ORANGE, Calif. – A five-goal performance from Everett Prussak lifted the Chapman University men's water polo team to its eighth consecutive win on Saturday. The Panthers downed NCAA Division II Concordia University Irvine 14-12.

A tough, physical game that saw 25 exclusions went back and forth throughout the first half. Prussak scored three of his five goals in the first half but it was a late goal from Drake MacNichols that put the Panthers out in front at the break. He scored with 1:18 to go in the first to break the tie game and put Chapman ahead 6-5.

The third quarter belonged to the Panthers as they pulled ahead with a 5-1 advantage in the quarter to make it an 11-6 score heading into the fourth. The teams traded the first two goals but Hudson Pak swung momentum with his goal at the 4:46 mark of the third.

Ben Blatt's pass to the other end of the pool drew out the opposing goalie. Pak was able to beat the goalie to the ball and loft it over his head into the open net for an 8-6 lead. The Panther capitalized on momentum and scored the next three goals to go up by five with Prussak, Daniel Franks and MacNichols padding the lead.

The Golden Eagles fought back in the fourth with six goals but Chapman made some timely answers with Prussak's fifth goal and Franks' third to stay ahead by multiple scored. After cutting it to a two-goal game with less than a minute left, CUI pulled the goalie into the field. Blatt took advantage by shooting the length of the pool to make it 14-11.

The Golden Eagles scored one final time in the final 30 seconds before the Panthers came away with the win.

Blatt make six saves to go along with a pair of assists and a goal pick up the win in the cage. Prussak and Nate Randolph each had a pair of steals along with MacNichols and Dylan Gallegos.

The Panthers are back home on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to take on Pomona-Pitzer in Allred Pool.
