ORANGE, Calif. – Josh Phillips stole the spotlight with a two-run game-winning home run to give the Chapman University baseball team a 3-1 win over visiting Carleton. Until the walkoff homer from Phillips, the game was a classic pitchers' duel as both starters dominated but took no-decisions.

With the score tied 1-1 in the ninth, Oli Sellman drew a full count walk to put the winning run on base. Phillips took the first pitch he saw from Sam Zacks well over the left field fence for a game-winning two-run homer – his fifth home run of the year.

Carleton had strung together three singles in the sixth to plate their first and only run. Drew Littwin tied the game with a two-out RBI-single in the eighth.

Grant Manning and Kiefer Lord stole the show for the first seven innings. Lord held the Panthers to just two hits through seven innings and struck out 10. Manning struck out six and did not issue a walk and allowed just four singles through his seven innings of work.

The edge went to Chapman in the bullpen as Dylan Holt pitched two perfect innings and fanned three to pick up his third win. Carleton went to Cayten Gardner in the eighth and Zacks in the ninth although both gave up runs as Chapman scored all three runs off the bullpen to capture the victory.

Chapman wraps up its non-conference schedule on Tuesday when the Panthers host MIT at 7 p.m.
