Win streak snapped at eight

Box Score

ORANGE, Calif. –  The Chapman University baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday with a 4-2 nonconference loss to Redlands. The Panthers' bats didn't warm up on a cool night at Hart Park.

Both starting pitchers were stellar through four innings as neither allowed a run or much of a threat. Sophomore Tyler Peck took a no-hitter into the fifth as he had issued just three walks and a hit by pitch. In the fifth, the Bulldogs broke up the no-hit bid and shortly after put some runs on the board.

Christian Conci's leadoff double was followed by a pair of strikeouts – Peck's six and seventh of the night. As Peck looked to be out of the jam, three singles and a walk brought three runs in for the visitors to take the initial lead. Sophomore Jonathan Hernandez closed out the inning to limit the damage.

Redlands' scored another run in the sixth before senior John Wiehe's sacrifice fly put the Panthers on the board in the seventh. Junior Jared Love hit a towering solo homer in the eighth but the Redlands' pitching staff slammed the door on any rally attempts to stop the Panthers win streak.

Five Chapman pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts and allowed just six hits. Peck took his first loss of the year on the round while Felix Minjarez got the win for Redlands.

The Panthers are back at home this weekend for a nonconference series with Concordia Wisconsin. The first game is Friday at 7 p.m.
