Men's Water Polo

Men's water polo heads to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament

  • The third seeded Chapman University men's water polo team (14-13, 10-4 SCIAC) travels to the second-seeded Whittier (16-11, 12-2 SCIAC) in the semifinal round of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Panthers and Poets have played each other twice this season with Whittier coming away with the victory on both occasions.
  • Senior Jeff O'Brien is leaving his name in the record books at Chapman in his final year. The center has taken 517 shots in his career and scored 218 goals, ranking third overall in Chapman history in both categories. O'Brien's 76 goals this season rank second in the SCIAC to La Verne's Rey Julian Castillo and he is just three goals away from tying for the fifth-highest single season total in Chapman history.
  • Sophomore Wesley Hertel leads the conference with 244 saves. The Houston, Texas native is two saves away from tying for the fifth-highest single season total in Chapman history.
  • The Panthers hold four of the five top spots on the SCIAC assist leaderboard this season. Senior Nathaniel Fernandez ranks second in the conference with 39 assists, followed by junior Kevin Dayan in third with 37, freshman Hunter Ramaekers in fourth with 32 assists and junior Brady Hoskins in fifth with 29 assists.
  • O'Brien and Dayan are tied for second in the SCIAC with 96 points, coming just behind Castillo's 102 points. Dayan and Hoskins also lead the SCIAC in steals with 60 and 41, respectively.
  • The Poets are the only team to have beaten No. 1-ranked Pomona-Pitzer in conference play this season, winning in thrilling overtime fashion to open up the conference earlier this year. Whittier's only two SCIAC losses this year have come from Redlands and the Sagehens, who re-claimed the victory the second time the teams faced off.
