Eddie Carrillo enters his 30th season leading the Chapman men's soccer program in 2025. As the winningest and longest tenured coach in program history, Carrillo has led the Panthers to eight NCAA Division III Tournament appearances and two SCIAC Tournament titles.
The Panthers won their first SCIAC Tournament title in 2018, shocking the tournament field as the No. 4 seed. Despite being the lowest seed in the tournament, the Panthers were no stranger to postseason play. Carrillo led the Panthers to six tournament appearances in the previous eight years and four SCIAC Tournament final appearances (2013, 2014, 2016, 2018). In 2022, Chapman clinched its first-ever regular season title and won the SCIAC Tournament title at home for its eighth NCAA appearance.
Along with Chapman's six SCIAC Tournament finals appearances, the Panthers have qualified for the SCIAC Tournament in nine of their 12 seasons in the SCIAC. In 2024, the Panthers earned the fifth seed in the expanded tournament and pulled off back-to-back upset victories to make the tournament final for the sixth time.
A Chapman alumnus, who played for the Panthers from 1984-85, he led Chapman to three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in his first four years as head coach from 1997-99. His teams have finished .500 or better in 16 of his 24 seasons, and he has coached 20 All-Region selections, 13 Academic All-District VIII selections and a two-time Academic All-American.
In 2015, the Panthers had their best season yet in the SCIAC. They finished second with an 11-4-1 SCIAC record and hosted Chapman's first-ever SCIAC Tournament men's soccer match. Chapman narrowly fell to La Verne but returned the favor in 2016 as Chapman earned the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament and defeated La Verne for its third trip to the SCIAC Tournament title match in five years. In 2018, the Panthers upset top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in penalty kicks and downed Occidental 1-0 in the championship game for their first-ever SCIAC Tournament title.
Carrillo led the Panthers back to the NCAA Tournament in 2016 as Chapman earned an at-large bid and won its first NCAA Tournament match since 1998. The trip was the sixth for the Panthers under Carrillo's guidance. He also celebrated his 200th win in 2016.
Carrillo previously had a distinguished career as a high school coach. He established a powerhouse program at Orange High, winning three league championships and being named Orange County Coach of the Year. He has been the club director of the OC Surf Soccer Club since its inception in 1998.
He has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Chapman and a master's in education from Claremont McKenna College. He and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Anaheim Hills and have four children, daughters Breanna, McKenna and Jadenn, and son Mason.
