CLAREMONT, Calif. – A pair of late goals lifted the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 2-1 comeback win at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Annabelle York scored the game-winner with less than four minutes left.
York volleyed in the g0-ahead goal in the 87th minute. The Panthers were pressing forward after equalizing the match just 10 minutes earlier. The CMS goalkeeper punched away a cross in but York charged and volleyed it in for the lead.
Karys McKinney scored the equalizer in the 77th minute from a sharp right angle at the top of the box. After beating CMS defenders to Nikki Zokaei's through ball, McKinney's shot dipped just under the bar to bring the Panthers even.
Sienna Gomez made nine saves for the Panthers, stopping six of those in the first half to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
CMS outshot the Panther 14-10 and scored the first goal of the match less than 10 minutes out of halftime. Eight of Chapman's 10 shots came in the second half.
The Panthers return home Saturday to take on Azusa Pacific at 11 a.m.
