ORANGE, Calif. – Athena Tsakiris lifted the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Whittier to stay undefeated at home. Chapman moved to 3-1 in the SCIAC with the victory.
Tsakiris' goal came in the 23rd minute and was one of 26 shots in the match for the Panthers. Delaney Kitchens played a pass well behind the defense for Tsakiris to run on to and run freely into the box. She buried the opportunity for a Panther lead in the first half.
Chapman continued to dominate possession and create the most opportunities, firing off 13 shots in each half and putting 12 on goal. Sofia Lopez made 11 saves to keep the Poets in striking distance. Chapman's Sienna Gomez made a pair of saves for her second solo clean sheet of the season.
The Panthers head back out on the road to face CMS on Wednesday and return next Saturday to take on Azusa Pacific at 11 a.m. The seniors will be recognized before the match for Senior Day.
